Now, if you’re reading this post and you’re on the blog, that obviously means you’re a fan of the show. So can you help the show stick around? Well, EW’s Ken Tucker seems to think so. In a post published yesterday entitled “Lie To Me: Why it deserves to live. Why it may not. You can help.“, he lists three reasons why Lie to Me deserves more than 3 additional scripts. In short, they are as follows:

• “It’s gotten better: more tense, funnier, smarter.”

• “Lie To Me deserves to prove itself over another season, to demonstrate where it’s going. It’s clear that Ryan, the producers, and the writers have a plan — they want to provide more intensity to the show.”

• “Last night, we saw how good Lie To Me can be. With a superb guest appearance by Garret Dillahunt (Deadwood) as a gun-wielding hostage-taker, Roth and co-star Kelli Williams really got to show what they can do. Lie To Me has all the makings of a solid, maybe even surprisingly original series.”

But he follows this up with the comment: “But it needs more of a vote of confidence from its network. And from you.”

So here’s your mission: Today on Twitter I put out a task for the readers to Re-Tweet the article from Ken. If you’re on Twitter, please do that, and encourage others to do so as well. (Try to include @LieToMeScoop in the Tweet so I can monitor the RTing… So far there’s been a good response.) And, in the next several days leading up to the show, continue to spread the word about it, whether via Twitter, Facebook, or plain, good ‘ol word-of-mouth. Fox has shown that they have some confidence in the show, but they could definitely use some encouragement along the way… a nudge in the right direction. They’re at the point where they need to make a decision. Let’s just hope it’s the one everyone’s pulling for.

For 9:30, the House/Lie to Me combo scored a 3.5/8 rating/share, with 9.88 million viewers. At 10:00, Lie to Me got a 2.6/7 with 7.45 million viewers. For the 10:30 period, Lie to Me combined with various local programming got a 1.9/5 with 5.26 million viewers. Here is the info for the shows also airing during these time slots:

9:00-10:00: Two and a Half Men (9:00-9:30, CBS – 4.7/12, 13.83 million viewers), Dancing with the Stars (ABC – 3.8/9, 17.04 million viewers), Trauma (NBC – 1.8/4, 5.52 million viewers), and Gossip Girl (CW – 1.0/2, 1.93 million viewers).

9:30: The Big Bang Theory (CBS – 5.1/12, 13.12 million viewers).

10:00-11:00: CSI:Miami (CBS – 3.8/10, 12.65 million viewers), Castle (ABC – 2.4/6, 9.88 million viewers), and The Jay Leno Show (NBC – 1.4/4, 4.74 million viewers). In addition, local programming started after Lie to Me finished at 10:43.

UPDATE: From James Hibberd of thrfeed.com: “On second-place Fox, sports lead-ins typically boost primetime shows, but not when its ALCS baseball going into a hit drama like “House” (11.7 million, 4.5). Pushed to a late start, “House” was down 13%. “Lie to Me” (7.8 million, 2.9) was up a tenth despite being displaced.”

The 39-year-old former star of The Practice says the addition of executive producer Shawn Ryan and a focus on character-based stories has helped the series, which premiered as a midseason replacement in January. Williams says she welcomes the changes, which have opened numerous possibilities for Foster’s future.

“Foster was in a much heavier place at the end of last year with her marriage falling apart,” Williams says. “This season there’s a little bit more levity in the office. And since I’m no longer with my husband, there are a lot of places they can take Foster.”

For one thing, the writers chose to make Foster less of a stickler. When investigating a cultlike religious group for tax fraud earlier this season, Foster was less interested in making a case for the IRS and more focused on helping one of the families escape from the group’s leader.

“I like that my character is doing things that she wouldn’t otherwise do,” Williams says. “Because Lightman (Tim Roth) is always breaking the rules, Foster has always been in the position of having to be the one that is the rule follower. It’s so much more fun to break the rules, and I think it’s good for her to be uncomfortable in that. She’s being driven by something else, and she’s having to say, ‘…I’m going to do this because I’m passionate about it.’ It’s fun, short of her getting arrested.”

Monday’s episode finds Foster and all the Lightman Group employees in danger when a man (guest star Garret Dillahunt) takes the scientists hostage to prove he didn’t murder his wife. Foster says the episode allows Foster and Lightman to get a little closer.

“There’s definitely a few moments in that episode that Foster really feels for Lightman and falls apart,” Williams says. They’ve been stuck with each other for years, and they’ve been really supportive of each other. They care for each other a great deal, but I don’t know if it makes sense to get them together.”

“We can care for each other and be supportive and have those more tender moments and not need to become a couple,” Williams continues. “Sometimes it’s more fun to keep that flirtation there…”

But Lightman is going to need her support in the coming episodes. “Lightman is going to get into a lot of scrapes. He gets his butt kicked for reading people,” Williams says. “It’s fun to see that the truth can truly hurt.”

Thoughts on the Premiere

In the Season 2 premiere … lie-busting is only half the fun, and Lightman’s methods are as surprising as they were in “Blinded.” One of the real pleasures of the episode is that the secondary “B story,” which involves another Lightman Group staffer vetting a Supreme Court nominee, is rewarding as well.

Shawn Ryan on coming onto the show

“It was an enjoyable show that a lot of people really liked, and one thing that was attractive was it didn’t have to be built from the ground up,” Ryan said in an August interview at his office on the Fox lot in Los Angeles.

Tim Roth on Season One

Roth had his own struggles in the first season, he said in a recent conference call with reporters. The workload of being the lead in a weekly series was a big adjustment for the actor, who comes from the more deliberately paced film world. And he said the crime-solving aspects of the show were starting to wear him down a bit.

“I was desperate to get some character stuff to play and some drama to play and not just be doing procedural work,” Roth said.

Foster’s trying to, in the wake of her divorce, still go through the adoption process that she and her husband had started when they were a couple, but that she’s having difficulty with. And it leads to a little bit of a, you know, religious and emotional crisis for her.”

“Growing up in London together, Ray and Lightman were best mates and partners in crime, running scams and getting into all kinds of trouble. Ray once took the fall for Lightman and spent time in in prison as a result. They haven’t seen each other in two decades, so Ray’s sudden appearance in Lightman’s life is cause for both celebration and suspicion. It seems that Ray’s had a lot of time to reflect on the past and has come to collect what he believes he’s owed.”
