Anna Gunn to Guest Star on Lie to Me

Michael Ausiello has reported that “Breaking Bad” alum Anna Gunn is going to guest star in season three’s third episode, scheduled to air November 24th. According to Ausiello, she’ll “play Internal Affairs Detective Jenkins, an ambitious, politically savvy police officer on the fast track to the top. She realizes Lightman is someone who must be handled with caution as she tries to bring down Detective Wallowski.” As you may remember, Detective Wallowski is a “crooked cop” being played by Monique Curnen.

Ausiello: Ask and you shall receive: “I think that’s coming up in another two or three episodes,” he told me. “In the meantime, we’ve got a really good episode that we’re about to start shooting that involves a bombing near the office. I get mixed up in it quite a bit, so that’ll be fun for the one reader who wrote you.”

Question: I looked at your midseason TV Cheat Sheet and I noticed that Lie to Me wasn’t mentioned. Does that mean that Fox didn’t order the “back-nine” episodes? —Ari
Ausiello: Look at you throwing around fancy industry lingo. Impressive. Less impressive is the fact that you totally missed my story last month confirming that Fox had indeed picked up the show’s back-nine. The reason it’s missing from the Cheat Sheet is because Fox has yet to assign a return date for the show. But it will return this Spring.

Melissa George Scores a Recurring Role on Lie to Me

According to EW’s Ausiello, Melissa George will be guesting on Lie to Me as “Clara Martin”, a recurring role that starts in episode 11. Her character was described in the casting call previously announced, but, in short, think Anna Nicole Smith.

According to Ausiello, Clara “is the sassy wife of an older billionaire who has been murdered. After being exonerated in a high-profile murder trial, she assumes control of her husband’s empire. Lightman sees himself in her — naughty, fearless, strategic, and always game for the next adventure.”

UPDATE: According to TVGuide.com, Melissa will appear in at least two episodes. They also state that she and Lightman will “bond over their shared eccentricities”.

So, are you looking forward to seeing her “go toe-to-toe with Tim Roth”?

Ausiello: It’s still on the table but there’s nothing official to report. Hart Hanson is certainly up for it. “We have our own human lie detector in Sweets, so I think that would be a lot of fun,” he says. “It would be fun to have Gordon [Stephen Fry] there, too, and watch Stephen and Tim Roth face off.” But the best part? As Hanson points out, Roth’s Lightman “could look at Booth and Brennan and know who’s lying and who isn’t.”

Ausiello: The show will gradually delve into Lightman and Gillian’s burgeoning relationship. “That’s something we want to take slow,” says exec producer Shawn Ryan. “There is something between Cal and Gillian, and we’ll [explore] what those feelings are. I don’t want to promise we’ll necessary act on them right away, or even ever.”

Question: I read somewhere that Lightman is going to go “undercover” at a singles mixer on Lie to Me early in the season. What other aliases will he take on to trick his subjects this season? —Jenny
Ausiello: A former frat boy, a wannabe father at a fertility clinic, and an underworld hitman, to name just a few.

Lennie James to Guest on Lie to Me

As reported in the 2×5 casting call, Lennie James will guest on Lie to Me this upcoming season, playing Ray Marsh. (His character will be introduced in the 5th episode.) Where things get tricky is Ausiello is reporting that he will play Lightman’s rival/nemesis. As earlier reported, and confirmed by Shawn Ryan, Marc Blucas will also be playing a rival of Lightman’s. (He’s being introduced in the 4th episode.) Also, it’s been mentioned before that his “rival” was in the same deception detection as well, (Blucas). So, will he have two rivals this season? (Check back to this post for updates.)

Ausiello also provided a few more details about Ray Marsh, stating that he’s “a charming Brit” and “is now on the FBI and Scotland Yard watch lists. Ray once took the fall for Lightman and spent time in prison as a result. Now, after a 20-year estrangement, Ray is back to collect what he believes he is owed”.

With all that in mind, what do you think about the choice of Lennie James for the character?
