What Did You Think of “Darkness and Light”?

whoa. didn’t think they’d have cal&gillian and loker&torres kissing in the same episode. not complaining though! haha
it was a good episode. i didn’t expect them to find molly right away, so it was a nice twist. & hayley macfarland did a really good job!
just wish they’d gone more in-depth about the cal&gillian kissing scene, but that’s probably just the callian in me!!

It was very interesting… not as great as I’d have liked to see… I had a few issues with a couple parts, but overall it was good. I’m just glad that I got to see this one while it was actually on TV.. and not have to wait (due to crappy job schedules or whatever) until I could DL it or watch it online.
I LOVE this show, what a great concept for a show and what great casting. The creators deserve to be commended for such a wonderful job. Keep up the good work.

This is probably my new favorite episode, besides the Pilot! And oh my gosh—Loker and Torres kissed! I have been waiting for them to become a couple (or at least admit that they have the hots for each other)!
Also glad to see more of Emily. She was great this week! :D

Good job on the idea for the teenager running and then, the true story. It was refreshing not to have seen it coming. I dunno. I’m 59, but I’m more interested in seeing Cal and Emily interact than Cal and Foster. I suppose with sexual tension, Cal and Foster are, well, a little tense, but Cal and Emily are father and daughter. I want the show to last and assuming it does, people won’t get their wish of seeing Cal and Foster really together for seasons. Loker and Torres could have whatever the writers want, I suppose.

Aaaahh! Such an great episode! Loved the kisses, loved seeing Emily step up into more of a helping role, just loved the tension and overall sadness of the situation. Wasn’t expecting the Loker/Torres kiss at all, but I hope we see more between them (at least some tension). I hope they keep up the Callian tension. I think it would kinda kill the feel of the show to have them romantically involved right now.
It was also nice to see Anna have more than just a couple of lines.
Just an overall great episode!

I didn’t really care for it. I put down “Okay” since I do like the more “action” oriented episodes. This one was very dramatic, overly so, and if it weren’t that it was Lie To Me I wouldn’t have kept watching really. I don’t care to watch that kind of thing. I find kiddie-porn subject presented and talked about more violent than on screen fake action violence. I don’t think anyone else will see my point of view but maybe he/she didn’t have friends who ended up in “the industry” like I did.
I also think the episode was trying to draw out more drama and balance the other episodes that were more action and weirdness (ala Cal entering a asylum and unable to get out, that was priceless!!). I didn’t get the same fantastic crazy feeling from Cal that I have been and even Mr Roth might disagree with me, but I thought this episode didn’t suit the character at all. Ok I am ready for any bashing comments (got my head gear on! LOL).
I did like the Loker/Torres interaction, and I see more sexual tension between them than I do Cal and Gillian.
I loved Emily in this one! It was a heavy subject, and one I don’t care for, and I felt like I was in Emily’s place. It just was a very dark subject and throwing in the HIV positive really went over the top and I think I looked like Emily when all this was happening. Of course I also had a friend die from AIDS and that could be another point for me not to care for this episode.
I say bring back the fictional craziness, the action, Zoe, I used to not like the character much (no offense to Ms Beals who is a fabulous actress! Love Four Rooms!) but now I have seen her vulnerable side (when Emily was missing) and the love I think she and Cal still have, like when knowing the Emily is out, playtime! Joking with Cal at the mental institution, and fixing his knicks and cuts, and then all of them out to dinner. Sorry Callians but that scene looks more real to me.

I have to agree with Julie, I didn’t really care of this episode at all. I thought it was way too schmoopy which is not in the character of the show. This was the kind of plot that could have been used in a lot of other shows, actually. I guessed every plot point which I can’t usually do (except Loker got the promotion? Really? Why the heck would he be chosen? That made no sense, but whatever).
I love the character of Emily and the actress does a great job, but a whole show that was centered on father-daughter just didn’t do work for me. It was meh. Not at all why I watch the show.
I really do hope the finale is better.

It was just ok for me. I expected a lot from the beginning. Then it turns into an Aids case and the mother killing was a complete let down. They built up all this just for that? The only word that comes to mind for tonight’s episode: anti-climatic. I also expect more of Lightman, scenes where he steals the show, where he acts like the smart**s but there was none of that.
I did like the plot involving Locker & Torres on a personal level particularly when they decided to band together & plot against Lightman but that too was a let down: I was bracing myself for them owning Lightman & for the final confrontation like in “Black Friday” where Lightman would have enjoyed their outwitting him and ended with his classic “well done” as he’d walked off.
As for the Callian thing, I really don’t feel it: there is no camera panning on Gillian’s far away look whenever Lightman leaves, or anything of the sort and no jealousy whatsoever when he’s slept with poker girl or Clara. After their pretend kiss there was no scene to let us know either one feels anything for the other. It’s therefore obvious that these two are nothing more than colleagues and very good & deeply loyal platonic friends but nothing more. Lightman is not Foster’s type and any woman is Lightman’s type. I think if the writers “went there” with “Callian” it would simply ruin the show. I hope they save that for S6 or S8 and only if the show might feel tired or find itself in a bad time slot and they needed a gimmick to pull off the ratings all over again. For what it’s worth, just my opinion!

I loved the episode, but was a little dissapointed that Cal and Gillian didn’t discuss the kiss. I mean, a little awkwardness would have been good. It’s not like they kiss all the time. It would be nice if they brought it up in another episode but I guess we can all bet that won’t happen.
Also, I liked the scenes with Emily and Gillian.
One thing that bugged me was at the end when Emily said she was finishing her “journalism essay”. If it’s journalism, then she’s writing a story or article, not an essay. Just a minor thing I noticed though.
Looking forward to the finale’s supposed cliff hanger.

I agree with Yesi. They should have brought the kiss up later in the ep. Even more with Gillians bad experience last ep. Here it went wrong to mix up the episodes and don’t show them in order. If they’ had shown “Beat the devil” I think it would’ve fitted much better. Back then Gillians retreat from Cal didn’t make sense to me, the same goes for the flirting and “happiness” of Callian last night.
I found the Emily storyline a little bit over the top. Though it was nice to see her, she sometimes acted like when she was working there.
Loker & Torres were a real surprise to me. Didn’t see it coming at all.
Altogether, I liked how the ep started light and funny and turned into something serious. Even though they should’ve choosen a different time slot, IMO.

I agree with most of you. They could have talked about the kiss or at least talk at all. Normally there are a lot of scenes where Cal and Gillian are talking about their cases and turn to each other for help or something. But there was not one single dialogue between just the two of them.
Before I read your posts I didn’t know that the ep was shown out of order but it makes sense now. It really felt a bit odd that Cal wouldn’t ask Gillian how she’s doing after her boyfriend left.
Although a Callian shipper myself I have to admit that I didn’t pick up on any tension between them either… It really was just an act i guess.

I liked seeing Cal, Gillian, and Emily spending so much time together… Ugh i wish they would have showed more of Cal and Gill undercover!

I finally made up my mind and voted “Good” but being a bit generous. I don’t know… I guess I was expecting something different and all in all… I totally agree with someone saying it was anticlimatic. Everything felt that way to me.
The Callian kiss was great! But… I wasn’t expecting it to be the opening scene. And yeah… I agree with almost everybody: how come they didn’t mention it later?!?! They almost didn’t talk at all during this episode and I was really disappointed about that. Taking into account that the season is almost over… we can forget about this kiss being addressed sometime in the future either.
Torres/Locker? Meeh… that’s something I definitely didn’t like. Don’t even want to talk about it.
I liked the Cal/Gillian/Emily interaction although I think it was kind of weird that she was around as if she were another employee… Too much of Emily for this case.
And yeah… I have to say this… Gillian spent almost all the episode at Cal’s house and when he finally gets home she is not there? I know I shouldn’t be complaining about this, but… whatever.

was a good episode. Just do not understand why the kiss was not a higher voltage. For previous chapters, it seems that the feeling of them is significant.
I hope it was on purpose that distance after the kiss, just to let the fans more willing to see the next episodes. hehe ..
I liked the interaction and Emilly Cal. Served to show the maturity of her character.
Loker and Ria … I liked what I saw … just thought that putting their kiss (which was already planned) and the kiss Callian (looong expected), it was weird.

I’m not a Cal + Gil shipper (unlike the rest of you, LOL!) but I agree with most of you; I think they should have mentioned something about the kiss, like how awkward it was or how good it was or something!
Kind of random but I love it when she says “I like to be tied up,” and he says “I love my wife!”

hi does anyone know the name of the song that was playing in the background at the end when Cal and Emily were talking in the kitchen? I would be grateful for some help , it was fantastic.

Thought it was great. At least the Loker and Torres interaction. I realized that the personal lives of the characters are in the forefront while the cases are being placed on the backburner.
