Ausiello: They hug in this Monday’s very eventful episode, but I hear it’s more tender than romantic.

Wow, Ausiello’s so informative! LOL The hug is partially shown in the promo. Doesn’t sound like he gets too excited about LTM…sorry it’s not Glee or True Blood. :)

Wow. Hardly worth the click. How about this instead:

There have been two major (and contrasting) interactions between Foster and Lightman. The first was in season one when she asks Matheson to let him go and starts to cry a little bit before Cal sends her out of the room (kudos to her for the very real fear/sadness expression btw). When she talks with him later that night, her response to him asking if he could stay at her place seemed to be more like she had been holding something back, then letting it go before saying “of course.”

In last week’s episode, however, Lightman was in a far more dangerous situation – one that (it seemed) he didn’t predict. Yet at the end of the episode, Foster stays very distant, hardly showing any sort of emotion at all. I don’t think it was shame for being wrong when Cal ended up being right (go figure), because she definitely was lying when she said that she “had work to do.” As Cal’s leaving, we also see her holding a folded piece of paper, so she’s clearly distracted.

But with what? If we look at the teaser for next week’s episode, we get a hint that it had something to do with her past. Perhaps the comments of the professor (Cal’s old lover whose name escapes me at the moment) in addition to whatever Foster was dealing with at the end of the episode (which we’ll likely be told about on Monday) explain her distance.

The emotional connection is clearly there, but something(s) is/are holding her back.

Oh, and to the blog ‘powers-that-be:’ don’t waste our time with this stuff. I know that I can speak for many many people when I say that any little bit of behind-the-scenes news gets us really stoked, and things like this are a letdown to us, and don’t begin to measure up to the greatness that is Lie to Me.

ps – Obviously all of the “analysis” (though I wouldn’t call it that) about the episodes are just opinions, thoughts – nothing more. I’d love to hear what the rest of the Lie to Me fan base thinks about it. :)

They probably build up a lot of suspense and leave us all hanging before revealing it to be something stupid. Well, I hope that’s not the case, though I suspect it likely.

@cptgibbs Thanks for sharing your thoughts. As for what we post here at scoop: there are a few weekly new columns that, when they mention Lie to Me, we’ll post the excerpts of. The blog’s been around for over a year, and that’s worked out well. So, we’ll continue to do so. Obviously some scoop is better than others, but scoop is scoop. :) Sorry you weren’t thrilled with this one, but hopefully future scoop will make up for it. Thanks again for sharing your thoughts, and I hope you continue to stop by and do so. :)

    @Kate -

Of course – I hope that none of my comments were taken personally. Having studied the science before Lie to Me even aired, I tend to get a little over-passionate at times, so my apologies. :) I wouldn’t bother to post here if I didn’t love the show and the vast majority of the things that you all post (the tweets are excellent as well).

Looking forward to the next scoop.

Please, don’t let Lightman & Foster get involved as anything more than friends with benefits. I mean, ick. Lightman is sexy as hell, but he’s also a world class asshat. Foster could never cope with him on a day to day basis. Lets not turn a slick, intelligent, show into another maudlin love story.

@cptgibbs Oh, no worries at all. Just figured I’d explain. Appreciate the support, and glad you take the time to comment. :)

I saw the hug, and I agree, it was more tender than romantic. But Foster’s face displays more than that. I think she was realizing something she may have neglected before. But, anyway, I’m all for a Cal and Gillian romance (and Lie to Me, of course)!

Although I agree that the hug was a slight letdown since it tended towards the ‘friendship’ area rather than actual ‘like’, I’d like to point out the scene earlier, where Cal jumped on top of Foster to protect her from the bomb.

Not only did he do that regardless of his own safety (not something you would do for someone you don’t care deeply about), he also grabbed her hand when they were running (something that most certainly wouldn’t have happened back in season one). Also, Helen did warn Foster about the consequences of falling in love with Cal—-foreshadowing, anyone?

So I’m not sure if we’ll ever actually see something develop between Cal and Foster, but here’s hoping! :]

ITA. It wasn’t ‘romantic’ but it was possibly the biggest moment between them yet.

Cal had been prodding her about her pariticipation in the cover-up; said it had always bugged him because while he wasn’t above doing something like that, she was. He wanted to know why she would compromise on something like that. But it turned out that the only reason she did it was to protect him and his family. *He’s* the only reason she’d do something like that. And that was big for her to sort of admit that to him, as well as for him to realize it.

I like the idea, Mira. But that comment from Helen could also be an excuse for the show not to take foster/lightman’s relationship in that direction. If you really study these past few episodes, you can see how careful the producers are being to only include friendly encounters between the two of them. I’m hoping for a third season romance, since we’ve already been informed it won’t happen the back half of the 2nd season.
