A New Romance For Lie to Me’s Cal Lightman?

According to an interview with Shawn Ryan published by the Press Association, fans can expect some romance for Cal Lightman (Tim Roth). But, will it be with Gillian Foster (Kelli Williams), as a lot of fans hope? Shawn wouldn’t say: “I don’t want to say with which character… But he’s a healthy heterosexual male and should be able to enjoy himself on occasions.”

Speaking of the show in general, Ryan said: “Tim Roth doing crazy stuff is the most basic appeal”. He then went on to explain: “What I’ve tried to do is add a personal nature to the show and (find out) who were these characters and what’s their back story.”

So who do you think this new romance will be? Foster? Melissa George’s soon to be introduced character “Clara Martin”? Or someone else? Sound off below with your thoughts.

    Oh man, pleeeeeeeease let it be Gillian!!! Him being with someone else just seems so wrong! No Zoe, no “Clara Martin” bimbo. :)

    Following the usual formula of television, it probably won’t be Gillian. Most shows like to tease those kind of ‘ships’ til the very end. It would feel wrong for him to be with someone else, but maybe another female vying for Cal’s attention will produce some interesting Cal/Gillian scenes.

    I’d love to see it be Gill, but unfortunately (as TV show expirience tells us) I’m quiet sure that would be to simple..

    So I’ll go with Clara Martin for now. Of course, I’m always willing to be proven wrong. ;)

    As a romance author I have been dying to see Cal in a romance — that platonic kiss with Gillian at the end of the hostage-taking epi nearly killed me, and I would love to see them together. However, I agree with “Canada” that I can also see how a fling with someone else might make Cal and Gillian more aware of their romantic feelings for each other, which they obviously are reluctant to admit — but maybe that would push them along a little. ;) And more fun for us viewers…

    OH the games they play with us viewers! LOL I would LOVE for it to be Gillian, but I’m pretty sure it won’t be…sniff sniff. That would be too easy and by it NOT being Gillian it will give us viewers something to stew about!!!!! :( I’m sure it will probably be Clara Martin as they have hinted that she may be his “rival”. UGH. Hey, as long as he realizes he REALLY loves Gillian and LTM just stays on the air………….. gulp …. it’s ok, Cal! ;)

    It has to be GILLIAN!! Of course, like everyone else, I’ve watched enough TV to know it’s never that easy. I could see her finding out that he’s sleeping with some random bimbo and kind of be hurt and angry. It would be an intense way for him to find out that her feelings for him are less than platonic.

    You guys will kill me, but I think Cal-Gillian relationship for me would be too obvious and I like suprises so I’m not fan of Cal-Gillian relationship. I wish it would be someone else, still don’t be mad at me ;) I guess they will be together.

    I’m guessing, since Roth qualified his statement with the “he’s a healthy heterosexual male who can enjoy himself” thing that the romance is going to be with someone other than Gillian :(
    I just hope it’s a short romance so he can get back to Gillian in the end!!!

    Well hopefully it will make them realise their feelings. They are sooo gonna drag this out. We have Ross n Rachel to thank for this!!

    You have no idea how upset I am right now. =( I know it’s not going to to be Gillian and that breaks my heart. There better be some jealousy on Gillian’s part or some getting even by dating other guys to make Cal jealous in order to make up for this.

    It won’t be Gillian, even though it most definitely should be. This bothers me because:

    a) It’s an over-used tactic to stall the show’s main couple (in this case, Cal/Gillian)
    b) Cal already insinuated in Honey that he was in love with Gillian, so this feels horribly wrong
    c) If they had done this in early season 2 while she was still reeling from her divorce and before we had had all of the amazing moment we’ve had so far (including b)) they it would have been true to character. To throw it in now feels out of place, and out of character.

    I truly hope that I am proved wrong and that they write this in a way that is true to character and actually beneficial, and not as something to mess the fans around with and a way to create angst by having Cal hurt Gillian.

    I think we’re all just gonna be patient and wait until Cal and Gillian finally realize they’re right for each other. On the bright side, we have 9 more episodes than we thought this season!!! Plus, even though Cal might be involved with someone else for a little bit, I’m sure we’ll still get some tender, beautiful Callian moments :)

    Well, here we go again. Off to the races. I see shades of Huddy, Bones, and screwing with the fans all over again. Sigh.

    My biggest fear is that either there will all sorts of unneccesary angst, or the show will be cancelled before the ‘proper ship’ comes home to sail and we’ll never see graceful resolution for the two characters people really have come to care about.

    Putting Lightman with someone other than Foster is like putting Mr. Darcy with Jane Bennett.

    My big fear is that it will be Torres that he hooks up with. The quote says “don’t want to say with which character… But he’s a healthy heterosexual male and should be able to enjoy himself on occasions.” Which leads me to believe it will be with a character we are familar with…

    Obviously I’m dying for it to be Gillian. I love them together and for once I need a couple to get together and be happy together. God, I feel like I’m being pulled over the place with House/Cuddy and dont get me started on Booth and Bones who’ve essentially proclaimed their love for each other and NOTHING has happened yet…not to mention I had to wait 7 years for something tangible with Scully and Mulder. It’s obvious there’s something deeper with Callian so here’s to crossing my fingers that we at least have an honest to god-i’m totally in love with you-not platonic in the least bit-totally hot kiss by the end of seson 2 :)

    Wouldn’t it be great for us Callian fans if the writers used reversed psychology and it really was between Cal and Gill! OK back to reality because I agree that’s not going to happen. I think it will be Clara Martin (or another character we haven’t met yet) and I’ve thought that ever since I read the spoiler about her character. Cal and Zoe already had their rendezvous so that would be old news. Isn’t it ironic that this blog about Lightmans love life has the most comments! hmmmm I wonder what is the most important aspect of this show. Is it the science? NOT it’s TR!

    I do not want Gillian and Cal to be together till the very end. I think that if they were a couple they wouldn’t have that sexual tension and flirting moments that we all love. I do believe that they should be together but not until the series is coming to a close. And by the way, most shows wouldn’t have the main couple together until the end because it would ruin the show. I think it will be the Clara Matin person. It also said in another spoiler that Gillian will also have a love interest. I see jealousy coming on. Callian <3333

    Tus is every bit of interesting. Also a good move, becaude, though i am a Cal/Gillian fan, i would love to see them inthe dating scene and cause each other intense jealousy to the point of blunt sarcasms and reviving Emily’s take on seeing her Dad being truly happy with Gillian :))

    after all, a little healthy competition is needed t bring out those hidden feelings we all want to see someday. And yes i dont think they will jump the relationship bet our two favorite characters since one of the awesome reasons i watch his show is for the incredible tension and hints the Callian ship is sailing through.

    Well if this show wants to be different than all the others they have to go with Gillian. It would be to easy to go with someone else. But it would be WAY more exciting to go with Gillian. With all these girls that he has been with in the past I still think that his feelings for run deeper than any other. He will do anything and everything to protect her even if that means staying away. But he won’t be able to fight his feelings for very long. :)

    This is to Shawn Ryan…..I know ur a GREAT writer and I know u want to keep the sexual tension between cal and Gil. I know ur a great enough writer to make it happen. Even if cal and Gil got together u can keep the tension there cuz they could keep it a secret from the office and Emily. I know u can do it. Question is…..will you. I hope that u do. This show has to take a different approach from all the others. PLEASE OH PLEASE make this happen.

    Hello everybody ! I’m a french fan of Lie to me (yes… exists!) so, sorry for my English, but I wanted to give my opinion on this article.
    I’m Huddy, I’m B&B, and I DON’T WANT a relation between Cal and another person. I want a Cal/Gillian !
    Sorry but, when Lucas & Cuddy in “House” put together, it was a massacre (and I remember, fans said it was going to spice up the series while not at all.) ! So, if Cal starts with another person, this will be like. Okay for a flirt during one, two épisode, but if this lasts during many episode (even an entire season), it will not go at all !!
    I think this romance is between Cal & Gillian because of the video where we see THE KISS (aaaaaah !) but I’m afraid of being wrong and still be disappointed. I hope that “Lie to me” not going to be yet another series to disappoint me on this … In addition, a romance between these two characters would pose no problem frankly. Really, I hope I hope I HOPE there will have a Callian romance

    If there will have a Callian romance, FOR ONCE, the writers take the risk to the pleasures shippeurs and they understand that two characters together do not necessarily kill the series … (and they make a happy fan is not all that beautiful? snif)
