Will Fox Pick Up the Back Nine of Lie to Me’s Second Season?

That seems to be the question on most fans’ minds. There’s been an interesting turn of events that may shed some positive light on that question. As discussed earlier this week on Twitter, Fox has shortened their order for the mid-season drama Past Life down to seven episodes. The official Fox statement was: “Due to the return of AMERICAN IDOL, 24 and our other midseason programming in January, as well as the back order of GLEE, we have a wealth of material for midseason and can only accommodate seven episodes of PAST LIFE on our schedule.”
Fox’s spring schedule was a bit tight, so where/how Lie to Me would fit in was a bit of a question mark. Until this announcement, at least. Paired with the previous announcement of Dollhouse‘s thirteen ep run, it seems reasonable to believe that Fox will pick up the back nine episodes of Lie to Me. Indeed, I don’t seem to be the only one that thinks so. Over at TV Guide Magazine, Stephen Battaglio reported: “Fox also has a full season of Glee on its schedule and appears to be leaning toward ordering another nine episodes of Lie To Me. That lessened the need for another hour show.”
While Lie to Me hasn’t done insanely well in the ratings, it has done respectably, and it’s ahead of where it was last spring. In addition, various charts, including one from TV by the Numbers, show that renewal chances are looking good for Lie to Me. (For the second half of the season and possibly beyond.)
An official announcement is yet to be made. But, I thought these little scraps of positive news worth passing on.
